Abstract:
Spurred by recent advanced in molecular pharmaceutics and materials chemistry, stimuli-responsive "smart" systems offer opportunities for delivering drugs in dose-, spatial- and temporal-controlled fashions. In this talk, I will discuss our ongoing efforts in using physiological signals, such as blood sugar level, enzyme activity and ATP gradient for on-demand drug release. I will first present the glucose-responsive closed-loop systems for biomimetic delivery of insulin. Next, I will discuss enzyme-activated formulations for delivery of cytokine, apoptotic executor and transcription factors in a programmed manner. Finally, I will introduce our recent work on ATP-mediated anticancer drug delivery.
